Rectification of the Legal Status of Foreign Workers in Iraq

In accordance with the Council of Ministers Decision No. (24340) of 2024, which includes the approval of the recommendations of the Executive Order Committee No. (23602) regarding the rectification of the legal status of foreign workers, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs recently announced the launch of the legal status rectification form for foreign workers who entered Iraq officially through all border crossings and airports (excluding the Kurdistan Region), starting from June 25, 2024, for a period of 45 working days.

This decision provides an opportunity for foreign workers who have not been issued a work permit to rectify their legal status without referring violators to the competent court, which mandates the rectification of the legal status of violating foreign workers by issuing a work permit and paying a fine that may reach up to three times the worker’s monthly wage according to Article (36) of the Iraqi Labor Law No. (37) of 2015.

Applications for rectification can be submitted via the following link https://eservice.ur.gov.iq/user-auth. The fees for the rectification request should be paid at the Ministry of Interior / Directorate of Civil Status, Passports, and Residency in coordination with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. The Labor and Vocational Training Directorate has indicated on its website that, in coordination with the Iraqi National Intelligence Service and the Directorate of Residence Affairs, it will conduct inspection visits to work sites and take legal action against violators.
